Triton Telecom donates PPE to local hospice

Triton Telecom is delighted to have donated 100 full-face shields to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice to help protect staff providing frontline care.

More than ever before, people need the support of the Hospice – especially patients with symptoms of Covid-19 who require extra care to fight the virus. The shields will help enable their doctors, nurses and frontline staff to continue providing services to patients and their bereaved families safely.

The shields have been made by Andrew Billington; brother of Triton Telecom’s owner, Dean Billington. Andrew initially set about using his 3D printer to produce shields for medical staff in his local area after hearing about the lack of PPE.

He appealed for donations towards the cost of materials and raised over £1,000 in the first 24 hours. He has since been inundated with requests from hospitals, surgeries, ambulance stations and care homes.

Dean Billington said: “We’re proud to support Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice so they can continue their incredible work at this time. My Grandad received care at the Hospice so this is a cause close to my heart.”

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses and supports their family members, loved ones and carers.

The charity is losing critical funds as fundraising events, community activities and corporate partnerships have had to be postponed. They have also had to close all 17 of their charity shops temporarily.

Maria Goodwin, Community Fundraiser at Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice, said: “It’s heartbreaking that we’re losing out on vital funds when people so desperately need our services. The support from our local community has been fantastic and we’re grateful to Dean for his generous donation.”
